Electromyograms as Physiological Inputs that Provide Efficient Computer Cursor Control

چکیده
This paper presents a new algorithm to translate electromyogram (EMG) signals, produced during facial muscle contractions, into computer cursor actions. These cursor actions are: left, right, up, down and left-click. The translation is performed in real-time and the classification of the EMG signals is based on features derived from the spectral analysis of the electromyograms. We have sought to improve upon the original EMG-based cursor control system described in [1] [2], and have devised a new system set-up and algorithm for the translation of the EMG signals into cursor actions. The two systems were compared using Matlab simulations and point-and-click trials. The simulation results show a marked improvement of the new system over the previous system in terms of classification accuracy, and the preliminary point-and-click tests indicate the possibility of a faster operation for the new system when compared to the old system. Integrated electromyogram and eye-gaze tracking cursor control system for computer users with motor disabilities.
This research pursued the conceptualization, implementation, and testing of a system that allows for computer cursor control without requiring hand movement. The target user group for this system are individuals who are unable to use their hands because of spinal dysfunction or other afflictions. The system inputs consisted of electromyogram (EMG) signals from muscles in the face and point-of-g...
متن کاملPlayer Modelling for Cursor-Driven Games
Cursor-driven games compose the vast majority of digital games on the market. For humans and for agents that control a virtual cursor, precise cursor control is frequently the primary determining factor of skill. Past efforts to control computer difficulty by adding rule-based distortions to the virtual cursor are inflexible and often based on coarse difficulty settings. We propose a framework ...
متن کاملSimultaneous and independent control of a brain-computer interface and contralateral limb movement.
Toward expanding the population of potential BCI users to the many individuals with lateralized cortical stroke, here we examined whether the cortical hemisphere controlling ongoing movements of the contralateral limb can simultaneously generate signals to control a BCI. A monkey was trained to perform a simultaneous BCI and manual control task designed to test whether one hemisphere could effe...
متن کاملCursor Control Device Characteristics
An analysis of cursor positioning may provide guidelines for improvements in cursor control. Four experiments addressed efficiency of cursor control devices (Mouse, Digitising Pen, Accupoint, Trackball). Participants moved a cursor leftwards, upwards or rightwards, positioning it in large or small targets situated in near or far space on the computer screen. Cursor coordinates were sampled ever...
متن کاملICA and Committee Machine-Based Algorithm for Cursor Control in a BCI System
In recent years, brain-computer interface (BCI) technology has emerged very rapidly. Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) bring us a new communication interface technology which can translate brain activities into control signals of devices like computers, robots. The preprocessing of electroencephalographic (EEG) signal and translation algorithms play an important role in EEG-based BCIs. In this s...
